1) Discovering the China Metaverse, 3/4/2025, 14:30, aula ovale
2) Mixed or split realities? A China-Italy dialogue, 4/4/2025, 9:30, aula ovale
Theese seminars will look at how Chinese narratives surrounding the Metaverse recall and re-enact old visions and utopias related to digital environments. They will focus on narratives related to the Metaverse that are articulated by specialist and traditional media outlets. In particular, the first day we will explore how Chinese concepts of the Metaverse differ from or influence Western ones, considering institutional, technological, and communication processes in China that are geared towards limiting, dissuading, and preventing online civic participation. Building on previous analyses, the speakers will explore how and if current forms of civic engagement might be expressed, transformed or subverted through public debate as well as in the design of and participation in social activities and practices on Metaverse-based platforms. On the second day, after a short presentation of some italian objects on VR citizenship, a larger debate will go forward with the three Chinese researchers.
The speakers will also debate with some guest colleagues coming from the Polythecnic University of Milan and the University of Siena.
