Speculating at the End(?) of Times. Aoir Flashpoint event on Technology and Politics in the Anthropocene.

The general mood in the early 21st Century is that it is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of our current socio-economic conditions (or, as the original quote went, ‘the end of Capitalism'). Yet we will have to do precisely that, since things are starting to change very quickly at the level of climate change , technological development as well as political and economic transformations, while our theoretical and political imaginaries are struggling to keep the pace. The purpose of this summer school is to begin to think about social theory tools for comprehending the possible direction of these changes.

The Flashpoint symposium consists in one day of keynotes and public panels (June 15) and if followed by a two day round table discussion of position papers that have been submitted by participants. Further details here.

La percezione generale all'inizio del XXI secolo è che sia più facile immaginare la fine del mondo che immaginare la fine delle nostre attuali condizioni socio-economiche (o, come diceva la citazione originale, "la fine del capitalismo"). Dovremmo, tuttavia, iniziare a farlo poiché nonostante le nostre immaginazioni teoriche e politiche faticano a tenere il passo, a livello di cambiamento climatico, sviluppo tecnologico e trasformazioni politiche ed economiche il cambiamento è repentino. Lo scopo di questa summer school è quello di iniziare a pensare a strumenti di teoria sociale per comprendere la possibile direzione di questi cambiamenti. 

 

Il Flashpoint symposium consisterà in una giornata di keynote e panel (15 giugno) e sarà seguita da una tavola rotonda di due giorni sui paper presentati dai partecipanti. Ulteriori dettagli sono disponibili qui.
