• Description

  The Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Statistics offers an advanced training aimed at fostering the acquisition of a common research vocabulary, and aims to provide a special focus on qualitative and quantitative methods of research grounded on international theoretical debate. The doctoral program focuses on social transformations impacting the fields, processes and cultures of the post-Welfare restructuring of Mediterranean Regions, and particularly the South of Italy, which seek to activate - even in the recurrent glo-calization crisis - strategies and policies against further peripheral marginalization. The courses focuses on topics such as: 1. Demographic, labour market and migratory dynamics; 2. 'New' poverties and inequalities; 3. Communication and digital culture; 4. Politics and political governance; 5. Identity cultures and gender; 6. Youth consumption and entrepreneurship; 7. Illegality and organized crime. 8. Statistical techniques for social analysis and Big Data.

• Organization of courses and educational activities:

  Credits (cfu): 180 1st year: mandatory courses: 30 cfu/750 hours (120 class-hours) specialisation courses/seminars: 5 cfu/125 hours (10 class-hours) research project: 25 cfu/625 hours 2nd year: mandatory courses: 10 cfu/250 hours (40 class-hours) specialisation courses/seminars: 15 cfu/375 hours (30 class-hours) research project: 35 cfu/875 hours During the first two years the specialisation courses and seminars may be supplemented both by italian and foreign scholars, invited by the Board Committee. 3rd year: research project: 60 cfu/1500 hours Curriculum: the mandatory courses are structured for two curricula: Theories, fields and cultures of social change; Methodologies and techniques for social research and statistical analysis.

• Admission test:

  Selection procedures: The candidate are expected to have a strong interest in Social Sciences and Statistics and to be  fluent in written and spoken English  (language certifications are not required but, if they are submitted, they will be considered by the selection committee together with other credentials). The selection procedure consists of two steps: Qualifications assesment. Together with the CV candidates are requested to present a research project of 3.000 words on issues that presumably will anticipate the PhD thesis. Two letters of refence in support of candidate's application are also required. Interview.
